WASHINGTON, July 7 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted ICx Technologies to provide its handheld explosive detection technologies for delivery to Afghan security forces.
U.S. company ICx Technologies was awarded a contract to deliver its trademarked Fido XTi explosives-detection systems to the Army. The Fido XTi handheld explosives detection technology order is part of an effort to equip the Afghan national army and the Afghan national police with next-generation explosive material detection capabilities.
ICx says its Fido XTi is the international variant of its widely deployed Fido XT. The technology is designed to be a lightweight system that can detect trace materials of explosive threats supporting critical operations.
"Our mission is to support the U.S. military and its allies with the most sensitive and field-ready explosives-detection systems available," Colin Cumming, ICx Technologies chief executive officer, said in a statement.
"We are proud that this order gives further affirmation that ICx continues to provide exceptional, combat-proven detection products and solutions."
