BETHESDA, Md., June 17 (UPI) -- U.S. company Lockheed Martin announced it has begun new tests on a military communications satellite marking a milestone in the development of the technology.
Lockheed Martin says its California-based Space Systems unit has begun final thermal vacuum testing of the first Advanced Extremely High Frequency military communications satellite.
According to a release, the final thermal vacuum testing marks a milestone for the development of the Advanced EHF accomplishing the testing in "one-third of the time than that of the previous Advanced EHF satellite."
"As we steadily progress on this critical program, these key integration and environmental test milestones represent significant achievements for the entire government-industry team," John Miyamoto, Lockheed Martin Advanced EHF vice president and program manager, said in a statement.
"We look forward to executing a successful thermal vacuum test and delivering the unprecedented communications capabilities that Advanced EHF will provide to our military."
