The contract for a new Super Hercules, an aircraft deployed by 11 countries, is part of an effort by Oman to add to its current fleet of three C-130Hs purchased in the early 1980s.

"The C-130J is ideally suited to the operating conditions found in Oman and other areas of the Gulf," Jim Grant, Lockheed Martin vice president for business development, said in a statement.

"Again we see a country that has recognized all the proven qualities of this world-leading airlifter purchasing additional aircraft."
