AOptix marks second successful flight test

CAMPBELL, Calif., May 26 (UPI) -- AOptix Technologies Inc. announced its communication system has successfully completed a flight test for the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory.

U.S. company AOptix, as part of a three-phase program with the Air Force Research Laboratory, completed a second flight test of its ultra-high bandwidth air-to-ground laser communications system.

The communication technology is designed to support air-to-ground ultra-high bandwidth links over long distances and at high altitudes.

"This new capability will enable the persistent down-linking of ultra-high bandwidth intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance information from various manned and unmanned airborne platforms," Dean Senner, AOptix president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

AOptix says the next phase of the flight tests will be conducted during the summer.
