FALLS CHURCH, Va., April 30 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has extended a contract with Raytheon for Tactical Control System software upgrade services.
U.S. company Raytheon says its Intelligence and Information Systems unit was awarded the Navy upgrade contract. As part of the $16.5 million extension, Raytheon will be responsible for migrating the Navy's Tactical Control System to a Linux-based operating system.
Officials say Raytheon will also upgrade the TCS system software to add key capabilities for supporting next-generation unmanned aircraft systems including the MQ-8B Fire Scout UAS helicopter program.
"From the inception of TCS, the Navy's vision has been to develop a common unmanned aircraft ground system for multiple platforms," Navy Capt. Tim Dunigan said in a statement.
"Taking TCS to the next level is a major priority for the Navy."
