PORT HUENEME, Calif., March 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has awarded a follow-on contract to Harris Corp. for the delivery of additional satellite communications terminals.
U.S. company Harris was awarded the contract by the First Naval Construction Division, known as the Seabees. Under the two-year, $30 million follow-on deal, Harris will supply the Seabees with additional Rugged Deployable Satellite Communications Terminals.
The additional order of the terminals, which are capable of using military and commercial-band satellite communications, is to support the Seabees' ongoing global military construction operations.
"We are proud that the Navy has again selected Harris SATCOM terminals to provide reach-back communications in support of its worldwide deployments," Wes Covell, Harris Defense Programs president, said in a statement.
"With multiband access, the Seabees are able to perform their mission with ready access to critical stateside information, thereby enabling war-fighter success."
