CLIFTON, N.J., March 11 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department has contracted ITT Corp. for the delivery of additional improvised explosive device jamming technologies.
U.S. company ITT was awarded the contract from the Naval Sea Systems Command. Under the $317 million order, ITT will manufacture and deliver more than 4,500 of its Crew 2.1 Vehicle Receiver Jammers.
The CVRJ systems, expected to be deployed with the Marine Corps, are mounted on tactical vehicles and jam the signal of a radio-controlled IED, preventing the explosives from detonating.
"With this new order, we are now supplying CVRJs to all four branches of the Department of Defense," Chris Bernhardt, ITT Electronic Systems president, said in a statement.
"Our systems are going to be protecting soldiers, airmen and airwomen, sailors and now Marines. We're proud to play such an integral role in defeating the evolving IED threat."
