NEW BEDFORD, Mass., March 9 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department has awarded a follow-on contract to Eagle Industries for the continued delivery of backpack systems for soldiers.
Massachusetts-based Eagle Industries was contracted to deliver its Modular Lightweight Load-Carrying Equipment, or MOLLE, system for soldiers in combat zones. Production of the MOLLE systems as part of the $9.3 million contract will take place at the company's New Bedford, Mass., facility.
Eagle Industries' MOLLE system is a backpack and vest system that includes body armor technologies and other features required by soldiers in the field.
"It is a great source of pride for Eagle that, despite these challenging economic times, we have been able to keep work coming in the door for our employees in New Bedford," Scott Carver, Eagle Industries executive vice president, said in a statement.
"Our extremely capable workforce ensures that the gear we produce for our men and women in uniform continues to be second to none. This award is testament to their hard work."
