DSS awards contract for biometrics system

MCLEAN, Va., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Security Service has contracted ATS Corp. to support an Internet-based biometrics program for security clearances.

DSS, an agency under the U.S. Defense Department, contracted U.S. company ATSC for the company to provide the Secure Web Fingerprint Transmission system with support services.

Under the four-year, $6 million deal, ATSC will deploy and ensure the maintenance of the SWFT, a Web-enabled biometric personnel security clearance system for background investigations.

"The SWFT award represents new work and a new customer for ATSC's public safety business and further expands our information sharing-related work at the federal level, specifically in biometrics and cybersecurity," Valerie Perlowitz, ATSC senior vice president, said in a statement.
