GTSI to secure Defense Dept. laptops

HERNDON, Va., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department has contracted GTSI Corp. for the company to provide data-protection services on government computers.

U.S. company GTSI was awarded the contract as part of the Defense Department's Enterprise Software Initiatives. Under the $25 million contract, GTSI will provide security services for Defense Department laptops and other mobile computing technologies to counter evolving cyber-threats.

Officials say GTSI will also be expected to evaluate architecture and security policies for the Defense Department's computers among other services.

"The risk and threat of data theft is real and coupled with an increased number of portable devices, which can be lost or stolen, the government needs to find measures to ensure that they close those gaps in security," Scott Friedlander, GTSI president and chief operating officer, said in a statement.
