GD contract for NRMD operations extended

GROTON, Conn., Feb. 6 (UPI) -- General Dynamics has received a contract modification from the U.S. Navy for maintenance work on nuclear submarines.

The modified contract extends an ongoing operations deal with General Dynamics' Electric Boat subsidiary for work at the Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Conn.

Officials say the $6.3 million modification extends General Dynamics' operation of the Naval Submarine Base's Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department until October 2009.

As part of the deal, General Dynamics will continue to operate the NRMD and support "project management, planning, training, modernization and repairs" on the Navy's nuclear submarines.
