HAWTHORNE, Calif., Jan. 22 (UPI) -- The U.S. Homeland Security Department has contracted OSI Systems Inc. to complete development of a dirty bomb detection technology.
California-based developer of specialized electronics OSI says its Rapiscan Systems division was awarded the contract from the Homeland Security Department's Domestic Nuclear Detection Office.
Under the approximately $2 million deal, Rapiscan will complete the development of a new advanced nuclear and radiological threat detection technology for integration into the company's Eagle Portal shipping container X-ray scanning system.
"Upon completion of the contract award, it is expected that the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office will deploy the system at a U.S. port for pilot testing, where it will be operated under controlled conditions within the port's normal stream of cargo commerce," the release said.
