ATK to deliver missiles for Navy F/A-18s

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted ATK for the delivery of advanced anti-radiation guided missiles for integration with F/A-18 Hornet variants.

Minneapolis-based ATK will supply its advanced anti-radiation guided missiles to meet Navy operational requirements through 2010. As part of the $55 million contract, ATK also will supply spare parts along with other equipment and services.

Officials say the AARGM, developed in collaboration with the Navy and the Italian air force, will be integrated with the F/A-18C and D Hornet aircraft variants offering pilots a "supersonic, air-launched tactical missile … capable of rapidly engaging traditional and advanced enemy air defense targets as well as non-radar time-sensitive strike targets," the release said.
