WASHINGTON, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- British company BAE Systems announced the launch of its new lighter-weight Caiman mine resistant ambush protected vehicle variant.
BAE released a prototype of its new Caiman Light 4X4 version of the widely deployed 6X6 Caiman MRAP vehicle. Company officials say the new five-man variant is only two-thirds the weight of the 18-ton 6X6 Caiman.
The Caiman Light, built on BAE's family of medium tactical vehicles platform, is capable of a less-than-20-foot turning radius and "comes with electronic stability controls," the release said.
Company officials are showcasing the Caiman Light at the Association of the United States Army Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, which ends Wednesday.
