HAIFA, Israel, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Israeli company Elbit Systems Ltd. has received a $25 million contract order for the company's Hermes 450 unmanned aerial vehicles.
Elbit officials say the Hermes 450 deal also includes the company's Skylark I miniature man-pack UAV system. The $25 million contract, from an unnamed country's defense agency, is expected to be delivered before September 2009.
The Hermes 450 platform, deployed by the Israel Defense Forces and the British Ministry of Defense, is designed to offer military units additional surveillance, reconnaissance and added aerial protection in difficult combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"We are proud to report another link in the chain of successes, with a new order from a new customer, attesting to the longstanding quality and operational abilities of our UAVs," Haim Kellerman, Elbit Systems UAV representative, said in a statement.
"Hermes 450 has proved its capabilities and reliability in the many years of operational performance. Following the current high demand for UAV's, with requirements for quick delivery for operational needs, the Hermes 450 in particular, Elbit Systems' UAV division is fully prepared to meet the full range of customers' demands and needs."
