LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- South Korea's Samsung has stolen a march on a widely rumored yet still unannounced large-screen iPad from Apple by announcing two 12.2-inch tablets.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Samsung unveiled new Galaxy Note Pro and Galaxy Tab Pro tablets, both with 12.2-inch displays.

Featuring identical 2560 by 1600 pixel "super clear" displays and sharing many internal components, each has 3 gigabytes of RAM and can be configured with either 32 or 64 gigabytes of built-in storage.

With the larger displays comes an increase in weight to almost 1.7 pounds, considerably more than Samsung's smaller tablet offerings.

While Samsung did not announce prices, Samsung-watching website SAMMobile.com says European prices have been tagged at $1,158 for the Galaxy Note Pro with LTE connectivity and $1,021 for an LTE-enabled Galaxy Tab Pro.

Samsung's announcement comes amid ongoing rumors of a possible "iPad Pro" that would feature a larger, 12- to 13-inch display, AppleInsider said.
