SAN FRANCISCO, July 29 (UPI) -- Smartphone maker Nokia says its devices may soon feature technology to help people find lost or misplaced items such as their car keys -- or even their car.
Nokia plans to unveil a proximity sensor in its Lumia lineup in the coming weeks that will help locate any specially tagged item, The Verge reported Monday, citing sources familiar with Nokia's plans.
A "Treasure Tag" sensor could be attached to a range of items, including a car, bike, keys, purse or wallet; then the smartphone, through the use of Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC (near-field communication) could lead you to the object and even emit an audio signal when close enough to announce the exact spot.
Each Treasure Tag, a small square device with a loop for attaching it to objects, will contain a battery designed to last around six months, Nokia said.
Its Lumia lineup will be updated to the Bluetooth 4.0 technology sometime in the coming weeks, the company said.
