Boeing tips location of research center

RIO DE JANEIRO, April 9 (UPI) -- U.S. Aerospace giant Boeing is locating its Brazilian research and technology center in Sao Jose dos Campos, hub of the country's aerospace industry.

The center coincides with Boeing's bid for the Brazilian Air Force's F-X2 contract for next-generation fighters.

The new Boeing Research & Technology-Brazil Center will open later this year. Company engineers and scientists at the center will investigate and develop aerospace technology projects with Brazilian government technology institutions. The center will also be the focal point for technology collaboration with universities throughout the country.

"We are excited to take this next step in strengthening our relationships with Brazil's research-and-development community to develop technology for the world," said Donna Hrinak, president of Boeing Brazil. "Together, we can grow Brazil's capabilities in ways that benefit aerospace and help meet the country's goals for economic and technology development."

Boeing said the advanced research center will be its seventh outside the United States. It will concentrate on aviation biofuels, advanced air traffic management, remote sensing, advanced metals and bio-materials, and support and services technologies.
