BERLIN, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- A German company says it is developing a pen that vibrates to tell users if they've made a spelling mistake while writing.

The device from Lernstift is programmed to recognize proper movements associated with each letter form, and can detect deviations in either spelling or grammar and respond with a gentle buzz, Britain's The Daily Telegraph reported Tuesday.

Lernstift said the pen could help children write more quickly and more accurately.

The pen has two modes: calligraphy mode to detect errors in form or legibility, and orthography mode to detect grammatical mistakes.

The pen's inventors say they will turn to Internet crowd sourcing to raise money to further developing and marketing.

Pen creators Falk and Mandy Wolsky, writing on their Lernstift website, reported being inspired by their son's early writing attempts, saying, "From the very first word there were errors."
