GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., April 30 (UPI) -- A man trying to plunk change in a parking meter in Grand Rapids, Mich., found a flyer taped to the meter with a picture of President Obama next to a swastika.
"Obama is a puppet," the handout read, decrying the 2-year-old healthcare law and the National Defense Authorization Act. "Hitler's Nazi Germany has been revived in the U.S. and the target is Americans."
Vern Jones, 59, said he saw the flyer blocking the coin slots on meters along the street last week, the Grand Rapids Press reported Monday.
"I certainly respect the right to an opinion, but this is a sick opinion," Jones said. "People have a right to say what they want, print what they want and hand it out, but that gives me a chance to say no. It has gone too far when it's put on public meters and to a captive audience without a choice. I know conservatives don't like [Obama], but with the swastikas, it's just too much for me."
Among other things, the flyer said there were military checkpoints throughout the country and it "is legal to assassinate Americans."
Jones told the Press he thought the flyer represents fringe beliefs and "reflects ignorance ... ."
The literature refers readers to a Web site to sign a petition supporting Tea Party ideas and urges people to support Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, in his bid to be the Republican presidential nominee.
The Press said material on the Web site purportedly was from a woman who said she lived in Grand Rapids, but telephone numbers for a person by the same name were either disconnected or answered by people who denied knowing about the flyer and the petition.
