WASHINGTON, April 15 (UPI) -- U.S. Internet freedom activists say they want to turn up the volume of their opposition to a cybersecurity bill in Congress.
This week will be dedicated to protests over the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, which activists say will open the door for overly broad snooping into the computer activities of innocent citizens.
"The aim of this week of action is to raise awareness about the serious concerns we have about CISPA," said Tiffiniy Cheng, co-director of Fight for the Future.
Activists told The Hill there were no plans for the attacks on Web sites that occurred during the debate over recent anti-piracy legislation. The thrust will instead be on petitions and Twitter appeals to members of Congress.
Opponents of the CISPA say it will allow companies to pass around personal information about Internet users; however, proponents say it will make it easier for companies to share important clues about cyberattacks and hacking incidents.
