Antarctica records record low temperature

Dec. 10 (UPI) -- U.S. scientists announced the lowest-ever temperature on Earth was recorded on the East Antarctica Plateau in August 2010 at negative 93 degrees Celsius.

Ice scientist Ted Scambos of the National Snow and Ice Data Center announced the discovery on December 9. The data was measured by satellites, meaning it won't go in the Guinness Book of World Records.

However, other scientists dispute Scamobs recordings. “It is incorrect to declare a temperature record based on satellite data,” Vyacheslav Martyanov, the head of the Russian Antarctic Expedition's logistics center said.
