Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin appeared on Spike TV's Guys Choice awards Thursday and proclaimed that "Tang sucks!"

Aldrin was presenting an award to Felix Baumgartner, the Austrian skydiver who jumped from space last year, and joked about how jealous he was of Baumgartner's Red Bull sponsorship.

Aldrin said there were no corporate sponsors back when he was piloting the Apollo 11 lunar module and walking on the moon, so he didn't feel too bad about revealing his real opinion of the powdered fruit-flavored drink.

Tang was originally invented in 1957 by the same General Mills food scientist who created Pop Rocks and Cool Whip. Tang was a dud for the company's sales until NASA used the drink on John Glenn's Mercury flight.

Since then, Tang has been associated with U.S. astronauts and spaceflight, even though NASA doesn't use the drink anymore, and vintage television commercials play up the connection.
