NASA launches Instagram account with moon pic

Now that NASA has joined Instagram, the world has one more way to view the space agency's incredible images.

"We’re constantly looking to expand our social media portfolio to include tools that will best tell NASA’s story of exploration and discovery," said NASA Press Secretary Lauren Worley in a statement.

"Instagram has a passionate following of users who are hungry for new and exciting photos. We believe we have some of the most engaging images on and off the planet -- and we can’t wait to engage with Instagrammers."

NASA is posting historic images of the moon all day to gear up for tonight's LADEE lunar orbiter launch. LADEE, the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer, will be visible to some 85 million people along the northeast coast of the U.S. when it launches at 11:27 p.m.
