LAS VEGAS, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Electronic gadgets that can survive water dunking -- accidental or otherwise -- are a surprise hit of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, analysts say.
Waterproofing of tablets, smartphones and other devices is a major theme of this year's CES, with a number of manufacturers happy to demonstrate their "keeping dry" tricks, NewScientist.com reported Wednesday.
An accessory manufacturer based in Connecticut, iDevices, is showing its aptly named waterproof iShower that attaches to a shower wall in the bathroom to stream music from phones and tablets via Bluetooth within a range of about 65 yards, keeping those devices safe from water damage.
Japan's Fujitsu decided to go one better and is showing off a fish tank full of waterproof tablets and smartphones with an invisible rubberized coating that protects them.
All inputs are compartmentalized with plugs either sealed off or featuring covers to keep water out.
Fujitu's products are already available in Japan, while Fujitsu is said to be using the CES to gauge North American interest.
