Britain releases UFO documents

LONDON, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- A senior official of Britain's Ministry of Defense attended a secret screening of UFOs filmed by fighter pilots in 1956, newly released documents indicate.

The documents are among 6,000 pages of reports on unidentified flying objects compiled under a three-year project by the Ministry of Defense and Britain's National Archives, the BBC reported Thursday.

The reports detail how objects of various shapes and sizes have been witnessed across the United Kingdom in the past 20 years.

One interesting aspect is how the shapes of UFOs reported have changed, experts say.

In the 1940s and 1950s, the predominant form spotted was saucer or disc-shaped while later sightings involved triangular shaped objects.

Also included is a letter from Ralph Noyes, a senior Ministry of Defense official, who describes viewing a film of UFOs captured by RAF fighter pilots in 1956.

Noyes says the footage was shown at a secret underground screening in 1970.
