WASHINGTON, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of some Peregrina- and Chipilo-brand cheese products because of possible bacterial contamination.
The Peregrina Cheese Corp. in New York said the products, all manufactured in its Brooklyn plant, might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.
The recall includes all Peregrina- and Chipilo-brand products produced at Peregrina plant No. 36-8431 since March 17. The products were distributed to retail stores in Pennsylvania and New York.
The FDA said the recall was being conducted under a court order.
