Denmark tops in technology readiness

GENEVA, Switzerland, March 30 (UPI) -- A European report gave Denmark the top ranking for its use of information and communication technology.

The World Economic Forum's Networked Readiness Index measures the propensity of countries to leverage the opportunities offered by information and communication technology for development and increased competitiveness.

It also establishes a broad international framework mapping out the enabling factors of such capacity, the organization said in a release.

Denmark received the top rating for its "excellent regulatory environment, coupled with a clear government leadership and vision in leveraging ICT for growth and promoting ICT penetration and usage."

"In recent years, the world has witnessed the power of ICT in revolutionizing the business and economic landscape and empowering individuals, while fostering social networks and virtual communities," said Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum.

Sweden was ranked number two, followed by, in order, Singapore, Finland, Switzerland, Netherlands, United States, Great Britain and Norway.
