dotMobi extends trademark registration

DUBLIN, Ireland, July 10 (UPI) -- dotMobi said Monday it will be extending the Trademark Sunrise Registration till Sept. 22 for owners of IP.

"The extension of the Trademark Registration period to September 22 is a welcomed initiative by dotMobi as it provides trademark holders with additional and much needed time to decide upon and organize their domain name applications based upon eligible trademarks," said David Taylor, partner and head of the domain name practice at Lovells, an international law firm.

"Importantly, applications should be filed carefully using eligible trademarks in the name of the trademark holder to prevent potential rejection," Taylor added.

The Trademark Sunrise period, which began June 12 and already has registrations from companies including American Express, Ziff Davis Publishing and BMW, was extended because of requests for additional time, summer holidays, and third-quarter budget planning, dotMobi said.

Qualified trademark owners hold trademark or service mark applied prior to July 11, 2005, and granted before the date of the domain name application.

General enrollment will begin Sept. 26.
