SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 6 (UPI) -- Global Crossing has picked Juniper Networks to provide core routing platforms for its next-generation world data network backbone.
Juniper said Tuesday the project would use its T-series platforms to help meet increasing consumer demand for 10-Gigabit Ethernet in a scalable format.
Global Crossing provides large-scale data transmission services for major business customers and other data carriers.
"Global Crossing's next generation core network supports both current and future voice, video and multimedia services," said Juniper Vice President Shailesh Shukla. "It is always gratifying when a leading network operator such as Global Crossing validates Juniper's JUNOS vision for an agile and open network."
JUNOS will run on the T-series as well as the M-series routing platforms that were installed on Global Crossing's current backbone, which Juniper reduces the overall complexity of the massive network.
