WASHINGTON, May 3 (UPI) -- Foster-Miller received $28 million from the Naval Surface Warfare Center to replace and fix robots damaged while neutralizing bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan.
It will provide some 200 TALON robots as well as replacement spare parts to fix the robots damaged, said the company, which shipped its 500th Talon robot to U.S. forces at the end of April.
The funding is part of a multiyear contract from the Man-Transportable Robotic Systems Program that runs through 2009.
"We thank NAVSEA for their continued confidence in Foster-Miller's TALON(TM) robots," said Chief Executive Officer Dr. William Ribich. "The American public is becoming increasingly aware of the devastation caused by IEDs (improvised explosive devices) and the important role a robot such as the TALON plays in keeping our soldiers out of harm's way whenever possible."
