Vista delay seen lowering 2006 PC sales

BOSTON, March 27 (UPI) -- Personal-computer sales in the United States are seen falling as Microsoft said it would delay the launch of its latest Windows system.

Research group IDC of Boston said that sales are expected to decline 2 percent in 2006 from their initial projection for the year to 68.2 million units. The group had said in November that the number for this year would reach 69.5 million units. In 2005 overall sales reached 68.2 million units.

Last week Microsoft said it would postpone the launch of its Windows Vista network to next January instead of its initial launch plan of having the product out before this year's Christmas shopping season.

"The timing of the release will have some impact on when consumers buy, but not so much on whether or not they buy," said IDC analyst Loren Loverde.
