Hibernia trans-Atlantic broadband hits U.S.

BOSTON, March 21 (UPI) -- An agreement between Hibernia Atlantic and RCN Business Solutions will bring a new source of broadband bandwidth into the northeastern United States.

This week's deal is specifically aimed at the Boston and New York markets and will make use of Hibernia's direct undersea cable connection between North America and the British Isles.

"Hibernia Atlantic offers us a diverse path across the ocean out of either New York or Boston," explained RCN Vice President Howard Smith. "Our customers will benefit from an optimal solution delivered by Hibernia with an extensive suite of network services, large bandwidth capacity, and millisecond latency."

The companies said in a news release that RCN can now offer U.S. customers route diversity on a secure network due to Hibernia's ability to avoid busier cable backhaul routes between the United Kingdom and landfalls in New Jersey and Long Island.

Hibernia's dedicated Ethernet and optical level services reach up to 10 gigabits per second.
