BOSTON, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Boston's public WiFi project has selected Airpath Wireless to supply the planned system's administration and control platform.
Airpath said Tuesday that WiBOSS Metro would handle such electronic paperwork chores as subscriber management, authentication and accounting for the Boston Main Streets WiFi project, which will provide residents with free broadband access.

The system, which is undergoing pilot testing in four Boston districts, also will pave the way for potential advertising on sign-on and other pages.
The appeal of public WiFi is growing in U.S. cities where broadband access is seen as an important ingredient for economic growth.
