ARKALYK, Kazakhstan, April 24 (UPI) -- A Russian Soyuz space capsule landed safely in Kazhakstan Sunday, carrying two crew members from the International Space Station.
CBS News "Space Place" reports that the Soyuz commander, Salizhan Sharipov, undocked manually from the space station to save power because of worries about a battery pack.
Expedition 10 commander Leroy Chiao of the United States and Italian astronaut Roberto Vittori had been on the station for six months. They were replaced by Expedition 11 commander Sergei Krikalev of Russia and U.S. flight engineer John Phillips, who are expected to remain there until September.
Sharipov, Chiao and Vittori were given a clean bill of health after medical examinations in Arkalyk, 50 miles from the landing site.
The Soyuz has been the only transportation to the space station since the destruction of the space shuttle Columbia.
