MIAMI, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Less than four months after publication, a Miami Beach cardiologist's diet book is moving from best seller to a major franchise.

"The South Beach Diet" by Arthur M. Agatston has sold more than a million copies, says publisher Rodale Press. At least three more books are planned. Knight-Ridder reported a Web site already has 20,000 paying subscribers, and there's talk of developing diet foods to fit the concept.

Reportedly among the book's big fans are former president Bill Clinton and U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Still, Agatston quickly dismisses a question about whether he will turn his diet into a full-time career as did Robert Atkins, who was also a cardiologist.

"I'm enjoying my day job," said the Miami Beach physician, who continues to see a full load of patients while handling a barrage of media requests. He has already taped with NBC's "Dateline," last month for a show scheduled to air in the fall.
