Hybrid vehicles lead fuel economy list

WASHINGTON, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Three car models running on combination gas/electric power plants are tops in fuel efficiency for the 2003 model year, with diesel-powered cars taking most of the other top 10 spots, government officials said Tuesday. Ongoing research will avoid simply shaving off vehicle weight, which can affect passenger safety, to achieve higher mileage, they said.
