Kentucky billboard: 'Not everyone who is gay is happy'

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- A controversial message on a billboard in Louisville, Ky., is making some people upset.

The billboard’s message, "Not everyone who is gay is happy -- You have options,” is meant to appeal to people “who have same sex attractions that are unwanted," Daniel Mingo told WDRB. Mingo, founder of a ministry called Abba's Delight, created the billboard.

"It is not meant to target anyone who is happy being gay," Mingo said. "Abba's Delight is a ministry that helps people of faith who are uncomfortable with their same-sex attractions."

At least one organization thinks the billboard and Abba's Delight are offensive.

"An organization like this really needs to be shut down," said Chris Hartman, the director of the Fairness Campaign. "To suggest that this organization is going to help someone is an exact obfuscation of the truth, it's the opposite; they're going to harm 90 percent of the people that walk in and out of their door.”

The billboard is supposed to be in place for 90 days.

"I walked away from homosexuality 21 years ago," Mingo said. "Because I knew it wasn't in line with God's will for my life. And our ministry doesn't go after people who are happy being gay. In fact, we don't go after people at all -- they come to us."

"Who else to help someone walk out of something that they don't want to be in than someone else who has already walked that path?"
