Detroit woman stabs blowtorch-wielding attacker in the eye with screwdriver

A Detroit woman was able to escape the clutches of a man who pointed a gun at her, forced her into a car and burned her with a blowtorch by stabbing him in the eye with a screwdriver.

“Once inside the vehicle, he struck her several times in the face,” said Detroit Police Department spokesman Adam Madera. “And then he began ripping her clothes off.”

After the attacker began using a blowtorch to burn the woman’s legs, she stabbed him with a screwdriver and fled the car in the nude. She is being treated for first- and second-degree burns at a hospital.

The suspect is believed to be the same man who used a blowtorch to attack and sexually assault two women in July.

"There's a guy running around assaulting people and I felt like no one was really interested in it," said a woman who lives in the area. She said the DPD did not make a real effort to catch the suspect because his victims are people “of the street.”
