A North Carolina man rang in the New Year with a bang early Wednesday morning when a homemade cannon stuffed with black powder exploded in his face.
When emergency personnel responded to the scene around 1:15 a.m., they found 41-year-old Timothy Crouse lying against the side of his porch with serious head injuries.
Family and friends of the man who were at the residence told responders that they didn’t see what happened but they did hear the blast. One woman did tell police that she saw Crouse go flying across the porch.
Hester was airlifted to the Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center in Winston Salem and treated for second degree burns and damage to the cornea in one of his eyes.
The cannon was seized as evidence and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
