Anyone who is sick of hearing about Miley Cyrus taking a selfie while twerking and then posting the photo to Twitter with a hashtag will probably be a big fan of Lake Superior State University’s 39th annual list of annoying words.

According to the Michigan university, selfie, twerking, hashtag, Twittersphere and Mr. Mom are the most annoying words (and phrase) of 2013.

"Myselfie disparages the word because it's too selfie-serving. But enough about me, how about yourselfie?" wrote one nominator from New York City.

The school sorted through more than 2,000 nominations to come up with the 2014 Banished Word List.

"Typed on sites that use them, that's one thing. When verbally spoken, hashtag-itgetsoldquickly. So, hashtag-knockitoff." wrote Kuahmel from Gardena, Calif.

Since Lake Superior State began compiling the list in 1975, it has expanded to include more than 800 words. The terms Twittersphere, t-bone and Obamacare also made the cut.

At least one nominator also had an issue with the word adversity being applied to sports.

“Facing adversity is working 50 hours a week and still struggling to feed your kids,” wrote Kyle Melton, of White Lake, Mich. "Facing third and fifteen without your best receiver with tens of millions in the bank, is not."
