Florida woman charged with domestic violence against boyfriend who wouldn't cuddle

An argument between a 31-year-old Shavonna Rumph and her live-in boyfriend about the contentious practice of cuddling allegedly turned violent on Saturday night and resulted in the girlfriend being charged with misdemeanor domestic battery.

The trouble began when Rumph and her boyfriend went to bed at their residence in Bradenton, Fla., after some drinking and he rejected her request to cuddle.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, during an ensuing argument Rumph grabbed the man's shirt and caused it to rip. He then tried to leave the apartment but she wouldn’t let him go.

"At one point during the argument Shavonna had picked up a kitchen knife as if she was going to use it to hurt or stab [her boyfriend],” according to the probable cause affidavit filed in the case.

The boyfriend did tell authorities that he was not concerned about being hurt.

"We got into an argument because [her boyfriend] would not cuddle with me,” Rumph reportedly admitted to deputies. Rumph was released from jail on Sunday after posting a $250 bond.
