Dec. 11 (UPI) -- You would hate to see what would have happened if someone had forgotten to put cheese on their Egg McMuffins…

Police have charged an Arizona couple with assault and disorderly conduct after they called 911 and threw food at McDonald's employees because their breakfast order was missing hash browns.

Husband and wife Michael and Nova Smith claim say they had no choice but to call 911 after managers were not helping them when their No. 2 and No. 4 orders from McDonald's were served without potatoes on the side.

“It’s a meal,” said Nova. “Just like you should get fries with your hamburger, we should have got our hash browns with our breakfast sandwiches.”

Nova says managers refused to give back her money after she confronted them, prompting her to toss food in their direction.

"And that was out of frustration which I probably shouldn't have done, but I did. Fighting over $2 of hash browns is ridiculous. It is ridiculous to have to fight that hard just to get customer service," said Nova.

Michael then dialed 911 and went behind the counter to argue with the manager.

“I just was barely able to hold myself back,” said Michael. “And if not for the 911 call operator calling me back, I probably would have went berserk on him.”

A McDonald's employee was hit in the arm with a bag of food which is why the Smiths are being charged with assault.
