Everything is bigger in Texas, including gingerbread houses

Dec. 6 (UPI) -- After a team of judges from the Guinness World Records completed their inspection of a gigantic gingerbread house in Bryan, Texas, they had an announcement to make:

"This house not only measures the estimate 38,000 cubic feet, but actually measures 39,201.8 ft. A new Guinness World Record,” said adjudicator Philip Robertson.

In order to qualify, the sweet structure had to have an edible exterior made of gingerbread and resemble a house.

"All records have to have guidelines to make sure there is a benchmark for someone in the future for someone else to attempt it," said Robertson. "I think what impresses me most about most records is the community spirit around the record attempt. People come together for this remarkable cause and really work hard at it.”

Estimates say the house likely contained around 35,823,400 calories. The record-breaking attempt was made in an effort to raise funds for the Trauma Center at St. Joseph's Hospital.
