According to police, 23-year-old Jah Setzer fired shots and then took off with a $3 can of beer that was on the counter when he couldn’t get the register to open. Advertisement Clerk Charlie Welch recognized the gunman. “I've interacted with him and talked with him on a daily basis,” Welch told WSOC-TV. “It was something I didn't expect.” He said that he attempted to get out the back door and “stay out of the way of the bullets.” Customer Travis McDowell couldn’t believe what had happened. “That's crazy,” McDowell said. “That's ridiculous. Ignorant and everything else.” Setzer faces charges including aggravated assault and robbery. Welch thinks that two other men were involved in the attempted robbery, but authorities have yet to confirm or deny that allegation.
