Nov. 15 (UPI) -- One day after Michigan woman Diane Hart filed for divorce, she and her sister, Vickie Brill, allegedly tried to hire a hit man to kill Hart’s husband.
Hart, 45, and Brill, 50, were brought into custody after they allegedly offered jewelry and $5,000 to an undercover Michigan State Police officer who was pretending to be a hit man.
The women are expected to be arraigned on Friday morning, Nov. 15 on charges of solicitation to murder. That charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.
According to Michigan State Police Trooper William Coon, the husband, Gene Hart, contacted state police on Sunday, Nov. 10. He had some “very disturbing concerns” that he had heard from his brother-in-law. "His wife was potentially going to kill him," Coon said.
An undercover officer contacted and met with the sisters, and they allegedly offered to "trade an item of property" in exchange for killing Gene. Police then arrested the women and brought them to jail.
“The idea that two individuals could treat human life so callously is amazing to me,” said Muskegon County Prosecutor D.J. Hilson. “I’m certainly appreciative of how quickly and efficiently the state police worked in this investigation. And they were very successful in stopping what would be a homicide.”
