American Airlines discovers trainee is on no-fly list

A man training to become a flight attendant for American Airlines has been fired after the airline discovered he was on the government's "no-fly" list.

The trainee reportedly made several bomb threats against former employer United Airlines. He had previously cleared a background check using his name, Patrick Cau.

It turns out the 40-year-old Cau also goes by Patrick Kaiser, the name on the no-fly list.

Cau allegedly called in eight bomb threats to United Airlines from pay phones in New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Seattle between October 2012 and January 2013.

He is expected to plead guilty to the charges next week. United Airlines said it lost nearly $270,000 in canceled and delayed flights due to the threats.

Cau could serve a maximum five years in prison, and has agreed in his plea deal to pay $250,000 to United Airlines in restitution.
