A group of "young entrepreneurs living in San Francisco" have started a campaign on crowdfunding site Indiegogo that aims to erect a statue of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

"Steve Jobs once said he wanted to "leave a dent in the universe." He lived up to that and had an immense impact during his lifetime. Whether the mark he made becomes indelible remains to those who are still around. We are the bearers of his legacy. This statue will act as a reminder for the preservation of a memory worth remembering."

The creators say "the size of the statue will be directly proportional … to the amount raised." They say their $50,000 goal would only cover construction a a life-sized statue.

"If the campaign raises enough capital -- more than what we could conservatively hope to raise -- we'll aim for Statue of Liberty and Colossus of Rhodes proportions :)."

The creators are also hoping that timing the campaign to coincide with the movie "Jobs," which chronicles the entrepreneur's life and career and opens Friday.

"We anticipate that the release of the new Steve Jobs movie will likely bring about a spike of interest in Steve Jobs, which indicates that the timing is opportune."

One day into the two-month campaign, $163 has so far been pledged. It remains to be seen how many people want to spend more money on Jobs than they already spend on their Apple products.
