Though the origin of National Tequila Day is deemed unknown, Americans have become accustomed to celebrating the unofficial holiday every July 24th.

Tequila is a distilled beverage made exclusively in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico from the blue agave plant. In spite of the liquor's worldwide popularity, real tequila can only be made in Mexico.

In fact, according to National Day Calendar, Mexico has been granted international right to the word "tequila" and Mexican law states that the drink can only be produced in the state of Jalisco.

Don Cenobio Sauza, a President of Tequila village, reportedly introduced the drink in the late 1800s. Ever since, it has become the fastest growing spirit in the Unites States.

Not to be confused with National Margarita Day or Cinco de Mayo, National Tequila Day is the perfect unofficial holiday to get out and try tequila cocktails.

Cheers!
