Next week's cover of The New Yorker magazine will show "Sesame Street" characters Bert and Ernie cuddled on a couch in front of a black and white television on which the Supreme Court justices are shown.

The cover art was submitted to the magazine unsolicited by Jack Hunter, who titled the piece "Moment of Joy."

The cover will mark this week's Supreme Court rulings on the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California's Prop 8 ban on same-sex marriage. The court ruled DOMA unconstitutional, extending federal benefits same-sex spouses, and dismissed an appeal to uphold a ban on same-sex marriage in California.

"It’s amazing to witness how attitudes on gay rights have evolved in my lifetime," Hunter said. "This is great for our kids, a moment we can all celebrate."
